BA (Hons) ACTING – 3 years, full time
We want you to be a versatile, creative and innovative actor, capable of creating your own opportunities.
We offer training that prepares actors for rehearsal, performance, production, interdisciplinary creation and industry engagement in stage, screen and digital disciplines. Working in challenging scenarios with traditional and innovative practitioner approaches, you expand your psychological and physical processes to hone your acting methodology. You experience classic and contemporary works, alongside commissioned new writing, giving you the chance to bring characters to life for the first time.
You collaborate with external professionals and students from other disciplines to realise full, professional-scale productions. You also develop self-employment, enterprise and interpersonal skills.
Your first year gives you the tools and framework for approaching and responding to dramatic and creative stimuli. In The Actor's Technique modules, you focus on the technical principles of naturalistic technique for stage and screen. This is supported by rigorous fundamental training in voice and movement. A grounding in cultural perspectives provides an intellectual underpinning, and you explore artistic creation, collaboration and elements of professional development. Throughout this year, you are introduced to interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial work ethics.
In your second year, you continue to develop your technical proficiency in acting, movement and voice. You advance towards an independent acting methodology that results in a public presentation of a challenging, non-naturalistic work and Shakespearean heightened texts. Your year concludes working with a professional company (such as Gecko Theatre, Slung Low or Peepolykus) to create a brand-new innovative production. You have the opportunity to broaden your skillset, developing associated skills such as writing, directing, producing and musical theatre.
Your final year is about presenting yourself as a professional actor. You take part in two public performances, using your independent methodology and collaborating with external directors and creatives. London and Manchester live and digital Showcases provide the opportunity to engage with agents, professionals and casting directors, giving you the resources to market yourself to a wider industry audience. You create your own digital media project, exploring an issue relevant to your craft, and will take part in our #FutureProofFestival, preparing you for the challenges of a contemporary professional acting career.
